In apologetics, the question why believe in God usually jumps straight to the how – various proofs that help the mind grasp the demonstrable fact that God exists.
But, really, why believe in God? Why go through all that effort in the first place?
The answer I have heard in my community is both simple and powerful.
Because only God can help us rise from the “box of death.”
Only God can bring us back from the dead.
“This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.” (John 17:3)
Once the mind is open to that possibility, that hope that perhaps after all there is a God who, as the book of Wisdom says, has created us for immortality (Wis 2:23), the proofs can begin to fall into place.
